In operation, no two Kanban systems are identical.  Although they operate on the same basic principles, they need to be tailored to the specific environment that they are intended to serve.  With over 14 years of hands-on implementation experience, we have identified over 25 key design options that must be taken into consideration in the design of any Kanban System.

SEMINAR 1: KANBAN

This seminar teaches the classical Japanese Kanban System. It covers all the elements with the assumption that someone in attendance has never been exposed to Kanban.  From that point, all the detail required to design, pilot, implement, and maintain a Kanban System is discussed.

SEMINAR 2: INTEGRATING KANBAN WITH MRPII/ERP

This seminar is extremely valuable for any company wishing to embrace automated Kanban methodologies that literally eliminate all manual activities associated with a manual Kanban System. These methodologies are best suited to companies that have hundreds or even thousands of part numbers and whose demand patterns may not always be smooth. This fully-automated Kanban system deals with the realities of specific environments where:

1. There are spikes in demand that cause stockouts which must automatically be taken into consideration in the calculation process.

2. Suppliers are geographically dispersed, requiring lead times of days or weeks, rather than hours.

3. The internal lead time for response to demand fluctuation may be longer than a few days.

4. Internal or external setup times may be more than a few minutes.

5. The quantity of part numbers requiring manual recalculation of Kanban lot sizes in response to shifts in projected demand is too numerous.

6. The quantity of part numbers requiring manual addition and subtraction of Kanban cards (for the Multiple Container Option) in response to projected shifts in demand is too numerous.

7. The physical layout of the company environment is so large that it would be unrealistic to walk to each cell to estimate the triggered load in order to shift flexible work cell workers to the appropriate work cells.

The majority of MRPII/ERP packages already contain most of the data elements required by an automated Kanban system.  What are required are the routines to calculate Kanban lot sizes and the mechanisms to trigger requirements to the replenishment source when consumption occurs.

KANBAN SEMINAR DELIVERY OPTIONS

Each company has different needs and we have options to meet those needs.  We offer both on-site and live, interactive, Web-based training.

ON-SITE TRAINING

With this option, Raymond Louis will give this seminar in your own facility. There is no better way to learn this material than to do so in your own facilities, with the instructor live and in person. Class size can range up to 30 participants.  Special arrangements will be made for larger groups. The seminar can be taught at your company site or at a location of your choosing.

The on-site training option is frequently combined with a one-day assessment of the company environment.

LIVE, INTERACTIVE, WEB-BASED TRAINING

When schedule, budget or other considerations do not allow for on-site training, we offer the option of live, interactive, Web-based training. The video portion of the training is provided through a Web conferencing service and the audio portion is provided through a toll-free phone line.

Class sizes of up to approximately ten students can be accommodated through the use of a computer video projector. When using a PC monitor, class sizes of approximately five can be accommodated. For the audio portion, a conventional speakerphone or conference phone is normally used. Throughout the seminar, students will be interfacing directly with the instructor, and a whiteboard will be available for sketching.

SEMINAR DURATION

The on-site seminar lasts 1-1/2 days.

The live, interactive, Web-based seminar is divided into 3 segments of 4-hour blocks of instruction. These blocks of instruction can be scheduled separately. We recommend that the seminar be completed within one week but can be extended as needed.
